Mobile kitchens and food vans built to order

Food trucks built in Melbourne

We build food trucks in our Keysborough workshop, including the body, the serving hatch, the benches and the fit-out, so you get a truck that suits your menu and is ready for its council inspection.

A food truck is a commercial kitchen on wheels

A good food truck has to work as a kitchen, pass a council inspection and still be legal and safe on the road. We have built food trucks for Melbourne operators, and we plan each one around the menu, the equipment, how many people work inside and where the truck will trade.

What we build into a food truck

  • We build the body itself, either as a new body on a cab chassis or as a conversion of an existing van or pantech body.
  • Serving hatches and awnings are cut and framed into the side of the body, with gas struts or props so they hold open safely.
  • Stainless steel benches, shelving and splashbacks are made to fit your equipment and are easy to keep clean.
  • Floors are finished with non-slip, washable flooring, and the walls and ceiling are lined with smooth, cleanable panels.
  • We frame in the space and mounting points for sinks, fridges, cooking equipment, exhaust hoods, water tanks and gas bottles.
  • Steps, grab handles, lighting, signage panels and lockable storage are fitted to suit how you trade.

Planned for inspections and the road

Before we quote, we work through the layout with you and check the weight of the finished truck against the chassis, because a fully fitted kitchen with water and gas is heavy. We build the fit-out to the layout your council expects, and the licensed trades who connect the gas, water and power certify their own work. Where a body or chassis change needs engineering sign-off, we work with registered engineers and certifiers and include it in your quote.

Coffee vans and refits

As well as food trucks, we can build smaller coffee and food vans, and we can refit or repair an existing food truck that needs new benches, hatches, panels or flooring. Send us a few photos and a description of what you have in mind, and we will tell you what is possible.

Common questions

Can you build a food truck on a truck I already own?

Yes. We can build a new food body onto your existing cab chassis, or convert an existing van or pantech body into a food truck if the body is in good condition. We will look at the truck first and tell you which option makes more sense.

Does a food truck need council approval in Victoria?

Yes. In Victoria, mobile food vehicles are registered through Streatrader with the council where the business is based, and the council checks the fit-out before it approves the vehicle. We build to the layout and finishes your council expects, and we are happy to talk to your environmental health officer while the truck is being planned.

Who does the gas, plumbing and electrical work?

Gas, plumbing and electrical work must be done and certified by licensed trades. We build the body and fit-out so it is ready for them, and we can coordinate with your gas fitter, plumber and electrician, or with trades we work with.
